Occupation:Owner/ Hairstylist- Khair Beauty LLC
D2F Chapter & Induction: Englewood High School, 2005
D2F Impact Statement: “D2F has truly nurtured me into a God-seeking, strong, determined, obstinate, and giving woman.”
Karla is an example of the beauty that Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood produces. Born and raised on the south side, Karla believes it’s not where you’re from but what you learn from it.
She was introduced to Demoiselle during her sophomore year at Englewood High School, one of the most impactful times of her life. With credit given to her D2F mentors and many other positive influences, Karla graduated in the top ten of her class. She studied at Hampton University for a short while but went on to obtain a cosmetology license from Pivot Point Academy and subsequently opened her first salon.
Karla is a Christian, (girl) mom, mentor, and business owner of 5 years. Being a part of D2F for nearly two decades has helped her become an enthusiast for female empowerment in every facet of life. Drawing on her unique entrepreneurial experience, knack for bringing out beauty, attention to detail, and organizational skills, she aims to strengthen the D2F Board. Admiring the work of the strong and virtuous women whose footsteps she walks in, Karla is deeply concerned about the future of girls, including her daughter, goddaughter, and little cousins, who will benefit from her efforts.
Karla believes that girls deserve to have a fulfilled life with the proper resources to navigate through this complex world, and that is her "why."
